If you want portable White Noise and you have an iPhone then go to the iTunes app store and type in white noise.  Just remember to put the iPhone into airplane mode as not to create EMF interference.

Recently Paranormal State had an ad on their show for an EMF meter app, this app is fake!
Do not use this app for real investigations until they update it for the iPhone 3G s to use the magnetometer!

Another App we do not recommend is Ghost Radar we found it to be completely random after 30 + hours of testing.

MEL METER    Mel-8704REM
Parachasers' highlighted inventor this round is Gary Galka.  In case you have never heard of him, Gary is the maker of the Mel Meter series of paranormal tools.  He has over 30 years of experience with high-speed data acquisition for GE jet engines Rolls-Royce and more.  Gary named the Mel meter after his oldest daughter Melissa.  She died in a car accident at 17.  The model number comes from her year of birth and year of passing on.  Prior to Gary's contact experiences with his daughter Melissa, he didn't know much about the paranormal and he didn't have much belief in ghosts.  Gary describes his experiences with the contact of the other side as well as of his daughter and mother as "humbling and  as if you have been exposed to a miracle.  Things that you thought were not possible are very possible and very real."   Gary came out of retirement to pursue his visions of communication with the other side and created the Mel Meter.  Gary goes out into the fields, watches how the investigators use the devices and gets their responses.  Gary is taking the issues that paranormal investigators are running into during investigations and tackling the problems with updates to his meters.
Similar to Parachasers views on paranormal equipment, Gary is definitely for the advancement of paranormal tools and hoping that people will display what they capture with these devices.  Gary even goes to the extent of testing other people's equipment to see how they respond to environmental factors in comparison to his own real time scientific Mel meters.

So Gary has a new version of his meter called the Mel 8704REM it includes EMF, temperature, red flashlight, and a new antenna which radiates an EMF field that can detect changes within its own field.  The effect on this field is displayed by visual LED's and by audible tones.  Both Chris Fleming and Paul Bradford are currently using the device in the field with Chris showing the new Mel as well as Gary's new Spirit Box 7 or SB-7 on a recent live episode of the Ghost Adventures.  The new Mel 8704 REM as well as the other numerous Mel models are available for order today.

So what's in store for future tools from this great maker?  The SB-7 for starters!  The Spirit Box 7 is a much needed improvement to tools similar to the Shack Hack.  Picture a shack hack that is the size of an mp3 player and fits in your pocket with a port for headphones and a port for a speaker output.  It has adjustable scan rates as well as forward and backward scanning.  The SB-7 also has synthetic white noise placed between the gaps.  The SB-7 can be recharged and you can turn the backlit display on and off as needed.  Gary hopes to have about 1000 pieces available for order in January.  (no word on pricing yet)

Another piece to look out for is Gary's Live EVP.  So one thing Gary noticed is that investigators are trying to get instant response to EVP when they may be reviewing their EVP a few minutes later or even the next day.  How would you like to know that when you ask a question you get an almost instant EVP response that plays back to you within
1-15 seconds of your question.  It will record and have the ability to mute out your question when playing back on the audio output so everybody can hear the response by itself.  Gary hopes to have a very small run of these out soon.
Gary would like to eventually have the Spirit Box 7 and Live EVP placed together, he now has a working prototype with both in the same device as well as possibly in a future Mel Meter with a few variations.

When asked if there can be too many sensors put into a device and the possibility of interference between these sensors Gary replies
" I have experience with hundreds of data sensors built into a device, as long as you know what technologies are available to you and how they respond to each other there's not an issue."  One of Gary's largest projects had over 5000 different data point collections.

I asked Gary what he thought about people using his tools improperly and if he had any advice.  He recommends not waiving your tool around in the air as quick movements may cause a fluctuation in the readings.  For the Mel Meter with the vibe sensor he suggests laying it flat for maximum sensitivity as the sensor is at the rear.  He would also like to see investigators using the fast detection EMF mode and not use the temperature sensor until you notice a temperature difference or ask a spirit  to change the temperature.

The advancements Gary has made to paranormal tools in such a short time are astounding.  His efforts represent an honest heart and ear for the paranormal and the investigative community which surrounds it.  If you're ever going to buy a paranormal tool the Mel Meter is by far in my mind the best you can get.  Even better,  part of the proceeds from the sales of the Mel Meter and tools that Gary makes goes to non-profit grief support groups for those that have lost loved ones.
Thank you Gary!

Here is another iPhone 3Gs app from the maker of EMF Detector called
PARANORMAL RECORDER from Excelltechmobile.com
This app has some nice features that some non-software tools should make note of.  This gives you the ability to record sounds based on a change in EMF with user set parameters as well as based on recording sounds above a user specified decibel.  It displays the recordings noted with the number of disturbances as well as allows you to listen and classify each sound.  Check out our YouTube video review.

This is an Inductive Amp Probe available on numerous sites including eBay in a few different styles new for as low as $70 and used for as low as $15.  Let me first say it's intended for use in detecting tones placed on wires you are tracing, however it can also be used for ghost hunting.  This will allow you to hear changes in electrical signals like AC / DC currents analog and digital as you walk place it near different items.  You can also pick up radio and phone conversations so be careful not to assume it's a ghost or spirit.  This can also be used for spirit communication as long as it is done so in an environment that is not filled with phone and radio signals.  When using this for communication consider only direct responses to questions.  This in a way is like an audible EMF detector and is a great piece of paranormal equipment for debunking.  If your model does not have an always on feature you can easily modify it with a switch.  I recommend recording what you hear on the inductive amplifier, whether you place the recorder next to it or wire your model with a headphone adapter to the probes' speaker and plug it in directly to the recorder.  When placing the recorder next to the inductive amp you will be recording the amp and any external noises like yourself talking.  If you wire it directly to the amps speaker and your recorders microphone line input then the recorder will only record the inductive amplifiers sounds.  Now go catch some good EVP's and let us know what you get!

EMF Detector iPhone app!

This is an EMF Detector app available on iTunes and I'd have to say not bad indeed.  Let me first say it's only $1.00 and it works pretty well for general use.  It is designed to use the iPhone 3G s magnetometer (compass).  It has sound and is laid out like a tri-field meter.  It will detect some basic EMF signals as well as ferrous metals.  The app does not seem to detect cell signals nor incoming cell data which some much more expensive meters may.  The meter does have a tendency to reset if it hits too much EMF which again is based on the limitations of the iPhones' sensor.  I feel the timeout of the app could be changed to not turn off when running, however you can change your phone setting to avoid this.  Perhaps an option to turn off the screen and still have the app run, but maybe these concerns will be addressed in a future update.  This is a great app for those of you that get caught unexpectedly in a paranormal situation and didn't bring your EMF equipment.  Hey it's right on your hip or in your purse!  Check out our YouTube in use segment.  Or check out the developers site EMF Detector.
